What is the Healthy Homeboy blog about?

One of the cool things about being human, is that we can develop a variety of interests. Some people play instruments, some like reading, some play video games, some are movie watchers, some can sing and dance, and some of us love to people watch. My wife and I love to people watch. Venice Beach, California is the best place I have ever people watched. Every type of person seems to be at Venice Beach.

Although working out and helping people lose weight is a large part of my life, it is not all I do. I created my blog so I could give advice on exercise and weight loss, but also, to share other aspects of my life with readers.

After I served in the Marines from 1991 to 1995, I used the GI Bill to attend Glendale Community College and Pasadena Community college in California. For one of my English classes, I had to read Jack London’s “Call of The Wild.” That book was incredible and it inspired me start writing. At first, I wrote poems. Then I dabbled in short stories. Some stories were fiction, and some were real life happenings, but I always had fun with them and tried to keep them positive. I even won a poetry contest while attending Pasadena City College. No lie.

One of my favorite non-fiction short stories I ever wrote was titled “Oliver.” Oliver was a 5 or 6 year old boy I coached on a little league baseball team about a year ago. He inspired me one day with his playful actions and innocent yet sincere words. I wrote a story about it, and sent it out to friends and family. The response was very positive. My neighbor enjoyed reading it and said to me “Dude, you have to start a blog”. I put it off for months because I knew as much about blogging as I knew about quantum physics, but eventually I thought “What’s the worst that could happen? That no one reads my blog”, and I started blogging.

I picked the name Healthy Homeboy because I am about health, but I also want to come across as someone people could be comfortable being around, hence the word homeboy. I mostly blog about exercise, health, food, and weight loss, but I also will blog about things I think are funny in life, like women getting butt implants or wearing booty pops. If I think it’s interesting, and I think readers will enjoy the subject, I blog about it. I also post pictures throughout my blog posts because I have learned that people love pictures. I try not to get too technical in my posts. I mean, who really wants to read about vitamin A, B, C, or D? And who wants to read about amino acids? My over 10 years of training experience has taught me that people trying to lose weight just want the basics, so that is what I try to give them.

The “Healthy Homeboy” blog allows readers to peek into my brain and life just a bit. I like to have fun, travel, hangout with my wife, go to carnivals, visit family, inspire others, watch sports, and stay physically active, among other things. There is more to Hector than strict dieting, working out, and training people, and hopefully my blog reflects that.
I thank all readers who take time out of their busy lives to read my blog. Please check it out at
